A New York City couple in their 50s jumped out of a 17-storey building together in despair. The reason behind their will to take their lives is the inability to afford their health care. The most chilling fact behind the whole story is that they left children behind in the apartment, as well as a simple suicide note.
The incident happened early Friday morning on the corner of Madison Avenue and 33rd Street – just a block from the Empire State Building. A 53-year-old chiropractor and his 50-year-old wife jumped out of a window of their recently-closed ninth-floor office in the 17-storey building.
Their bodies were immediately covered with white sheets right after the police got to the scene. They likewise shut down the entire block due to the investigation.
As mentioned earlier, the couple left a suicide note. It was placed in a ziploc bag, along with their IDs. The police has not yet released their names. However, some of the media managed to find out that the woman’s name is Patricia. The note they had left behind before commiting the suicide was the following:
‘We had a wonderful life’
A law enforcement source who talked with the Post said the woman’s note said: ‘Our kids are upstairs, please take care of them’. The man left one behind on his behalf as well. That one read: ‘We both have medical issues, we just can’t afford the health care.’
For now, that is the only information released and it is still unclear how many children are left behind, what age they are, and who’s going to take care of them. Only one thing is clear at this point: If it wasn’t for Obama’s Obamacare, none of this would have happened!
