Doctors Caught Faking Medical Records To Help Immigrants Get Citizenship

Over 1,000 people a year submit forms to immigration in Chicago alone to waive the requirements for citizenship. The regulations say they must understand English and pass a test in U.S. history and civics, but if they have a doctor fill out a N-648 form they can list any issue or language barrier that might prevent them from meeting these requirements.

Now a few doctors from across the country have been caught providing fake medical opinions. These corrupt doctors are lining their pockets with cash to fill out these forms so that immigrants don’t have to take these tests. Three doctors have already pleaded guilty.

Dr. Slawomir Puszkarski was sentenced to probation after helping an undercover federal agent file a fraudulent Form N-648. “I learned a lot from my mistake, and I would never do it again,” the 55-year-old psychiatrist told the Chicago Sun-Times. Doctors in San Diego, Miami and Philadelphia have all been charged.

These doctors are risking more than they know. They may never practice medicine again for $200 per form! Dr. Roberto J. Velasquez was sentenced to 21 months in prison for falsifying N-648 forms between 2006 and 2012.

In 2011, an undercover agent visited his office and recorded him saying “All right, very good, we’re going to make you a United States citizen, OK? I’m going to put down that you’re depressed, sad, anxious, um, I’m going to make a good report for you.”

Of course, these phony doctors are saying they only wanted to help people, but if that’s the case why weren’t they more focused on their real patients instead of illegal immigrants?
