The United States Navy has just deployed ships to Texas in order to help aid with the clean up of Hurricane Harvey. This is much needed in the area considering all of the stuff that they have been through. These ships are capable of doing just about anything they need to in order to help.
“These ships are capable of providing medical support, maritime civil affairs, maritime security, expeditionary logistic support, medium and heavy lift air support, and bring a diverse capability including assessment and security,” a statement from the Navy said.
Adm. Phil Davidson, the commander of US Fleet Forces Command sent 2 ships to patrol the Texas coast to help with relief efforts. This comes after many have been doing anything they can in order to help. All across the country, communities have been busy trying to help with getting supplies and monetary support to their fellow Americans.
“We are also, as we speak, coordinating with the National Guard Bureau to deploy an additional 10,000 National Guard from other states,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said during an news conference.
The country has been trying very hard to help our neighbors in need. It has been reported that over 26,000 people had already been evacuated from the Houston area. AccuWeather President Joel N. Myers talked about how far this flood goes.
“This will be the worst natural disaster in American history,” he said. “The economy’s impact, by the time its total destruction is completed, will approach $160 billion, which is similar to the combined effect of Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. The disaster is just beginning in certain areas.”
This is goes to show us how big this hurricane and ensuing flood really is. Billions in damage has already been accounted for and it is only the beginning. Hopefully the more important counts such as the death toll will continue to stay low.
This state was not ready for anything like this. This is a once in a life time flood. The impact on the entire country will be felt for years. This ships need to come as quick as possible because they need them.
