BREAKING NEWS: Trump Orders Huge Change to White House Lighting

Americans support the police officers who serve them — and finally they have a president who does as well.

President Donald Trump has just announced that the White House will be illuminated with blue light to honor police officers. According to The Hill, the show of solidarity will take place on the evening of Monday, May 15 to coincide with Peace Officer Memorial Day.

The whole upcoming week has been designated “Police Week,” and Trump has asked Americans to fly their flags at half mast to honor officers killed in the line of duty.

“During Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities,” Trump said. “Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours.”

Statistics cited by the White House showed that malicious attacks on law enforcement officers have gone up by 40 percent compared to last year.

Trump’s acknowledgment of the “thin blue line” is a refreshing change from the previous administration. President Barack Obama repeatedly acted as if he distrusted America’s police officers.

Early in Obama’s first term, he declared that police had “acted stupidly” in the arrest of a black college professor, despite admitting that he didn’t know all the facts.

Obama invited the renowned anti-law-enforcement group Black Lives Matter to the White House last year and deployed his Department of Justice in the witch hunt against police officer Darren Wilson and the entire Ferguson, Missouri, police force following the infamous shooting of Michael Brown.

Even after a tragic attack in Dallas left five police officers dead, Obama reportedly refused a request from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Foundation to light the White House blue as a sign of respect.

At the point when Obama did use the White House to stand with a cause, it certainly wasn’t to support police officers. Instead, the former president lit up 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with rainbow-colored lights to celebrate gay pride.

It’s about time the president acknowledged the sacrifices of police officers — and Donald Trump is doing just that.
